The owner of a rare Simmonds Spartan II 1930s biplane wants to sell his aircraft, and ideally he’d like to see it return to the Isle of Wight, where it was built.

Given the registration number of G-ABYN, serial number 102, it is the last surviving plane of its type and engine, anywhere in the world.

The current owner is Rod Hall-Jones, a New Zealand helicopter pilot. There the Spartan flies as ZK-ARH. Rod spent seven years working as pilot for the world famous oceanic film making Jacques Cousteau Society.

Rod is looking for a new owner for G-ABYN, ideally he’d like his Spartan to go to a museum or a serious collector, who will be her dedicated guardian in the future.  Follow this link to read the full story here about G-ABYN.
